FMAA OBSERVES “PATRIOT DAY”

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ, SEPTEMBER 8, 2006 – As our nation prepares to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Flag Manufacturers Association of America (FMAA) is doing its part to honor those who lost their lives that day, and pay tribute to the survivors, the families, and our nation. FMAA is encouraging all citizens to fly the flag at half-staff on what has come to be known as "Patriot Day."

By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001, Congress designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day." The President of the United States issues a proclamation in the days leading up to September 11, and requests that government officials and citizens observe the day appropriately.

FMAA recommends flying the flag as part of your observance of "Patriot Day" as well as throughout the year. "We fly the flag as a tribute to all of the men, women and children who lost their lives that day, for their families as they continue to struggle with such loss, and for the survivors left to cope with the tragic events of the day," commented Sandy Van Lieu, FMAA Chairman. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them, as well as our support. By flying the flag on September 11, we recognize the great sacrifices of that day, as well as the heroism shown by so many."

Flag popularity was at an all time high following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Now, five years later. US flag penetration and usage in the US is stable, with 62% of the US population having a US Flag in their household.

The Flag Manufacturers Association of America is a non-profit trade association, established in 2003, dedicated to educating and promoting the quality, variety, and proper use of flags manufactured in the United States. FMAA sponsors the "Certified Made in the USA" program that certifies your flag has been made in the USA of materials that are domestic in origin and that all processes in every step of its manufacture were completed in USA facilities with USA labor
